The word companion literally means “with bread.” Thus, a companion is someone with whom you break bread. Companion Breads is focused on preserving the ancient tradition of bread baking and strengthening community life. We produce a mix of naturally leavened (sourdough) and yeasted breads. All bread is baked in our wood-fired brick oven at our home in Mahtomedi, Minnesota. This year Companion Breads are sold only through our Community Supported Bakery. Most summers we can also be found at the Mahtomedi and Scandia Farmers Markets.
Companion Breads is the creation of Bryce Johnson. Bryce is a retired pastor. In 2010, he guided the congregation he served in White Bear Lake, Minnesota to build a community bread oven. In retirement he has been making and selling bread at Farmers Markets and through a Community Supported Bakery.
Jody Johnson works alongside Bryce in preparing and distributing the breads. In addition to bread making, they also lead a contemplative half-day prayer and bread making retreat. If you'd like more information email Bryce .
